The Skaneateles Festival in collaboration with the Seward House Museum is proud to present an afternoon with Kearstin Piper Brown! This event will feature the piece Fortitude, commisssioned by the Skaneateles Festival, inspired by the life of Hariet Tubman

This afternoon performance will take place Friday August 4 at 1:00pm at the Seward House Museum in Auburn. This event is outdoors, please bring a lawn chair!

In the event of incliment weather this event will move to the Auburn Public Theatre.

This event is free and open to the public. No ticket necessary.

Lyric soprano Kearstin Piper Brown joins the Skaneateles Festival for a special outreach appearance in Auburn. This year the theme of the Skaneateles Festival’s outreach program is Following Harriet. Kearstin Piper Brown’s performance will feature the piece “Fortitude,” composed by Nailah Nombeko, based on the life of Harriet Tubman.

Following Harriet is an expression of our multi-year Widen the Circle initiative. Harriet Tubman touched the lives of many who fought for freedom. Yet the journey continues today as American society debates what freedom means for individuals and society at large. In 2023, the Following Harriet outreach project invites composers, performing artists, longtime and new listeners to learn from Tubman’s vision, courage, fortitude, and civic responsibility. This is a critical juncture as we emerge from the pandemic with focus, clarity, and vigor about the potential for music to move the needle towards wholeness and inclusion in the Central New York region and beyond.
