Elizabeth Sutphen, soprano, is acclaimed for her sparkling coloratura, expressive artistry, and captivating stage presence. She has performed with many of the world’s leading opera companies, including the Metropolitan Opera, Houston Grand Opera, Detroit Opera, Opera San Antonio, and the Glimmerglass Festival, as well as internationally with Glyndebourne, Oper Frankfurt, and the Théâtre du Capitole de Toulouse. Her celebrated repertoire includes Zerbinetta in Ariadne auf Naxos, Rosina in Il barbiere di Siviglia, Mabel in The Pirates of Penzance, and Sophie in Der Rosenkavalier.
Upcoming engagements include a return to the role of Zerbinetta in Ariadne auf Naxos with Opera Omaha and singing the roles of Uranie and L’Amour in Rameau’s Les Surprises de l’Amour with Opera Lafayette. Recent highlights include her Carnegie Hall debut as soprano soloist in Fauré’s Requiem and Papagena with the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra. Equally at home on the concert stage, she has appeared as soloist with ensembles including the Nürnberg Symphoniker, Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra and the Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra.
A graduate of The Juilliard School, Elizabeth is an alumna of the Oper Frankfurt Opernstudio and a recipient of prestigious awards from the Sullivan Foundation and the George London Foundation.
