THE SKANEATELES FESTIVAL

Here's a sneak preview of the 2010 Season...

Week One: Three's Company
We explore the great variety of music written (and improvised) for varying combinations of three players. From America's premier piano trio, Trio Solisti, to the category-shattering, classically trained garage band, Time for Three, we'll cover a huge range of styles and genres. A special highlight will be the visit of Pulitzer Prize-winner Paul Moravec, and the performance of his phenomenal masterpiece, Tempest Fantasy.

Week Two: Golden Oldies
Revel in the music of centuries past. Lionheart, one of the country's foremost vocal chamber music ensembles, makes its festival debut with a program of rarely heard music from Renaissance Spain interwoven with the mystical and haunting sounds of Gregorian chant. Then we'll treat you to works from the great Baroque masters performed on period instruments by the lively players of New York State Baroque. Finally, the festival chamber orchestra will serenade us at Brook Farm with Handel's beloved Water Music, some humor from the other Bach, and Stravinsky's updated take on Baroque music.

Week Three: White Nights
The Russians are coming! Old Russian folk melodies, lush Slavic romanticism, the exoticism of Rimsky-Korsakov, musical pictures of the bleak and oppressive life in the former Soviet Union, and a French twist on Russian tunes you'll hear it all during this incredible Russian musical feast. Performers include the Ying Quartet, Sylvan Winds and pianist Spencer Myer.

Week Four: Hilary and Friends
Join us for the return of violin superstar Hilary Hahn. Not only will she dazzle us with her own talents, but she will also bring with her two exceptional friends and musical partners: Ukrainian-born piano sensation Valentina Lisitsa, and celebrated Canadian cellist Shauna Rolston. They will join together in duos and trios and perform for us some of the greatest chamber music written. Be there to witness the musical fireworks as these three huge musical personalities join forces on stage! We close the season with Hilary and Syracuse Symphony maestro Daniel Hege in a performance of Mozart's exquisite A Major Violin Concerto and Schubert's great Fifth Symphony.

Here's a look back at the 2009 Season...

A 30th Anniversary Season of sensational summer songs came to a close Labor Day weekend as two old Festival friends, Andres Cardenes and Eliot Fisk, delighted a full house of 700 people on the Brook Farm lawn. Eliot completed his unforgettable run of appearances on four consecutive nights with Rodrigo's Fantasia for a Gentleman as Andres conducted the Festival Chamber Orchestra. Then Andres concluded the season as soloist in Piazzolla's Four Seasons in Buenos Aries. This week of Latin music wrapped up another diverse season that included tributes to Felix Mendelssohn, our own 30 years of history, and music made in New York. We welcomed back old friends who remember the Festival's early days - Steve Doane, Mark Kaplan, Deborah Chodacki, Peggy Pearson - and new friends like the Jupiter Quartet, the up-and-coming Parker Quartet, and pianist Conrad Tao. And we were thrilled to have composer Carter Pann with us for a week to prepare the world premiere of his Summer Songs, commissioned by the Festival to celebrate our 30th anniversary and featuring the works of five local poets.
