Week 1: Bach and Beyond
Considered to be one of the greatest composers of all time, J.S. Bach brought the music of the Baroque period to its zenith and crafted masterpieces that are unrivaled in their blend of the intellectual, the artistic, and the technical. We open the season with a tribute to Bach's genius and influence: each program features one of his masterpieces, paired with complementary and contrasting musical delights. Long live "The Old Wig!", a nickname given to J.S. Bach by his son, C.P.E. Bach.

Week 2: We Shall Overcome
The most communicative music often reflects composers' personal struggles or the external turmoil around them. Here we present an exploration of profound and powerful music, from the inner battles of Beethoven, Smetana and Schumann to the expressions of faith, war, and social injustice from Bloch, Schulhoff, and the Imani Winds' own Valerie Coleman. It is deeply moving and thoughtful music that you won't want to miss.

Community Event with the Imani Winds
Take a break from your afternoon and join the world-renowned Imani Winds for a casual mini-concert featuring a selection of powerful and communicative music. The name Imani means "faith" in Swahili, and subtly mirrors the African-American and Latin American backgrounds of the group’s five players: flutist Valerie Coleman, oboist Toyin Spellman-Diaz, clarinetist Mariam Adam, hornist Jeff Scott, and bassoonist Monica Ellis. They’ll perform and discuss musical expressions of faith, heritage, and social injustice, from Negro spirituals to a piece written by their own Valerie Coleman. It will be a deeply thoughtful experience that you won’t want to miss!
