Eliot Fisk: A Family Affair

Guitar virtuoso and Festival favorite Eliot Fisk anchors a program of solo and ensemble music for guitar, joined by his family of professional musicians: his wife, accomplished guitarist Zaira Meneses, and his daughter, emerging pianist Raquel Fisk. Don’t miss the Syracuse native’s mesmerizing “balance of focused introspection and incendiary virtuosity” (New York Times).

Guitarist Eliot Fisk is known worldwide as a charismatic performer famed for his adventurous and virtuosic repertoire. In the 2017-18 season Fisk continues to break new ground for the guitar with marathon performances of his transcriptions of all 6 Bach solo cello Suites, duo performances with guitar legend Angel Romero and with a new trio formed with virtuoso guitarists Joaquin Clerch and Aniello Desiderio. Eliot Fisk has performed as soloist with the Los Angeles Philharmonic, Houston Symphony, Rochester Symphony, Orchestra of St. Lukes, Stuttgart Chamber Orchestra, Pro Arte Orchestra, American Composers Orchestra, Boston Modern Orchestra Project (BMOP) and many others. In June 2006, King Juan Carlos of Spain awarded Eliot the "Cruz de Isabel la Católica" for his service to the cause of Spanish music Eliot Fisk is Founder and Artistic Director of Boston GuitarFest, an annual cross-disciplinary event cosponsored by the New England Conservatory and Northeastern University and now entering its 13th consecutive year. In 2017 he created and served as Artistic Director of the first ever and immensely successful Salzburg Guitar Fest at the Universität Mozarteum in Salzburg. In summer of 2014 he toured China performing with his wife, classical guitarist, Zaira Meneses, and the couple's young daughter, pianist, Raquel Fisk.

Raquel Fisk, Piano

Raquel Fisk has performed frequently in the Boston area (including numerous performances in Jordan Hall). She recently performed to critical acclaim at the famous Bethlehem Bach Festival and twice in New York City's Weill Hall at Carnegie Hall as back to back winner of the AFAF Auditions. In August of 2014 she performed on tour for the first time in major cities in China including Hangzhou, Taicang and Shanghai. In both 2015 and 2016 Raquel won first prize in the Bay State Piano Competition and in 2017 won first prize in both the Senior Division of the Rhode Island Piano Extravaganza Competition and the Steinway Competition. This June she makes her debut as soloist with orchestra in Camille Saint -Saens' demanding Concerto #2 in G minor in Xalapa, Mexico, with the famous Orquesta Sinfonica de Xalapa under the baton of Maestro Lan Franco Marceletti.

Zaira Meneses, Guitar

Zaira Meneses is among the most exciting performers on the international classical guitar circuit. Her musicality and charisma have delighted audiences on three continents. This success led to performances of Joaquin Rodrigo's Concierto de Aranjuez and Concierto Madrigal for two guitars throughout Mexico. Since moving to the USA in 2001, Meneses has built a stellar reputation for her warm sound, limpid technique, and superb natural musicality, performing in many of the great concert halls of the world, including Boston's Jordan Hall, New York City's Alice Tully Hall, and Salzburg's Wiener Saal. Meneses has served as artist in residence at prestigious universities throughout the United States and recently began a long-term association with Syracuse University. Zaira Meneses is Director of Community Outreach and Student Affairs for the Boston Guitar Fest and Artistic Director of the new cross-disciplinary cultural initiative Guitar and Friends, for which she was awarded a grant by the Albert Augustine Foundation. She is a happy mother living in Newton, MA with her 16 year old daughter, Raquel Fisk.
